Domenico Pozzovivo is one of the main contenders to take the spoils in the Giro del Trentino and so will he while lining up at the Giro d’Italia in May, chasing just another great result of 2014 season for the French Ag2R La Mondiale team. The 31-year old climber admitted that that mountainous four-day event marks the beginning of his final preparations towards the Giro but played down his chances to take the spoils in the Italian grand tour.
“Trentino is a tough race and for a climber like me it is almost obvious to be among the favourites. I have been training very hard at altitude to prepare myself for the Giro d’Italia and this is a crucial step ahead of the Giro,” Pozzovivo told Spaziociclismo.
The tiny climber does not hide that maglia rosa is his biggest dream as a professional cyclist, but remained reluctant to admit his own chances in a clash with the likes of Nairo Quintana (Movistar) or Joaquim Rodriquez (Katusha).
“I’m still missing a little bit to strive for a success, but I’m hoping this gap will be filled ahead of the Giro,” Italian climber concluded.
