Jean-Christophe Péraud (AG2R) was forced to retire from the Tour de France in stage 17 on Wednesday.
The victim of a first crash during the reconnaissance of the route, Péraud took to the start of the individual time-trial in spite of a fracture of the outer end of the right clavicle. Unfortunately, Péraud crashed again less than two kilometres from the finish line and he wasn’t able to complete the stage.
X-ray exams confirmed the aggravation of the initial injury. The fracture of the distal end of the right clavicle is displaced and it should soon require surgery. It remains uncertain when Péraud will be able to return to competitive racing.
