According to his manager Angel Edo, Joaquim Rodriguez, who finished 9th overall at the Critérium du Dauphiné, could sign an extension of his contract before the Tour de France, his main goal of this season.
"A month ago we were more outside than inside, but now we can say that things have changed, although we have not yet reached an agreement. We are confident that before the end of the month we will come to a decision that it is best for both parties", Edo said in a press release.
"They have improved their initial proposal and now we will evaluate it together with any other options. We are closer than in the Giro, yes, everyone has played their part but really we are still far from what we would like. We have moved closer but is not a final agreement. We have given them until the end of June, which is necessary for the two parties, so Joaquim can begin a quiet Tour de France and they could find a replacement in case he doesn’t continue."
Last week, Viatcheslac Ekimov confirmed to Cyclingnews that Purito will sign a new contract in next days despite the uncertain future of their sponsorship with Katusha. According to Ekimov, Katusha decided to invest until 2016.
