Team Novo Nordisk raced against the clock around Six Flags Magic Mountain Amusement Park for the Tour of California’s Stage 6 time trial.
Friday’s race was moved from Big Bear Lake to Santa Clarita last minute due to snow. The new stage was a 10.6-km out and back on a flat course and took place under threatening skies with swirling winds. Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) won the stage by finishing with a time of 12:31, fifteen seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Andrea Peron had Team Novo Nordisk’s best time, 1:35 behind Sagan.
“The course was flat except in the final kilometers with a slight uphill,” David Lozano said. “This made for a very high-speed time trial and you had to save your power for the tailwind at the end.”
Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) won the race against the clock ahead of Jos Van Emden (Team LottoNL-Lotto) and Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step).
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes pro cycling team, continues racing at the Amgen Tour of California on Saturday with the race’s Queen Stage. Stage 7 includes over 3,535 meters (11,600 feet) of climbing as the race hits three categorized climbs on the run from Ontario up to Mt. Baldy.
