On the eve of the Tour de France, Nairo Quintana has sharpened the internal rivalry among the favourites. In the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad he responds to a comment Vincenzo Nibali made during the Criterium du Dauphine: "And where is Quintana?" the Italian asked at the time. "That makes me angry," Quintana says.

The 25-year-old Colombian is one of the big favorites for the overall victory in the upcoming Tour de France. The Movistar rider chose a different preparation than the likes of Chris Froome and Nibali. He rode the Route du Sud and trained in his own country.
"By training at my home, I killed two birds with one stone. I can not spend a year away from my family, my friends, my world. After two months in Europe I was glad to be back in my familiar surroundings."
The only rider of the Fabulous Four (Contador, Froome, Nibali, Quintana) who has never won the Tour, continues to clarify his position.
"I have quite the advantage that I can train at altitude at my home in Boyacá. I do not need to go on a training camp at Teide in Tenerife, like the others do. Rest assured, I am also checked there. They speak of somewhere like Colombia as if it is a country lost in a jungle, far away from everything and everyone. Two years ago, they also suggested that I am a child of a poverty-stricken family. My parents are not rich, but not poor."
