Nairo Quintana will be supported by a formidable team of climbers when he lines up against Chris Froome and Alberto Contador in the Vuelta a Andalucia that takes place from February 18 to 22. With 2 summit finishes in the five-day race, Quintana can count on great support in the crucial phases of the race.
Igor Anton who rode strongly in the Tour de San Luis, will be the key domestique in the mountains alongside Jose Herrada and Benat Intxausti. Giovanni Visconti and local rider Javier Moreno will also be able to provide solid support on the ascents.
The roster is completed by the in-form sprinter Juan Jose Lobato who be one of the favourites to win the three sprint stages in the race.
In addition to the two summit finishes, the short time trial on the opening day is likely to play a role in shaping the final overall classification.
Alejandro Valverde has won the race three years in a row but this year the Spaniard will ride in the Middle East, opening the door for Quintana to lead the team in Andalusia.
