After two second places at the Tour de France, Nairo Quintana believes that it is time for a change at the top of the Paris podium. He says 2016 is his time to win the Tour de France and he will deny Chris Froome a hat trick of titles.

“Everybody is beatable and nobody’s immortal,” Quintana told Cyclingnews during Movistar’s first training camp for 2016. “Chris Froome is an extremely strong rider; he’s won very important races. But I’ve been showing I’ve been getting stronger as each year goes by, and that means I can beat him.”

Quintana’s program has changed this year with teammate Alejandro Valverde riding the Giro. Quintana will line up in San-Luis, Volta a Catalunya, Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Tour de Romandie. That means he will not defend his Tirreno-Adriatico title or ride Fleche Wallonne. He isn’t sure what stage race he will ride before the Tour de France.

One final goal for the 25 year old Colombian is the Olympic Games road race, whose hilly and tough nature means climbers like Froome and Quintana can target it in 2016.

“I’d love to try for a result there. If I finish the Tour in good shape and feeling motivated, I’ll be heading to Rio for sure.”
