According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Matteo Rabottini's B sample has shown traces of EPO. The Italian now risks to be handed a suspension by the Italian Olympic Committee.
The test of Matteo Rabottini's B sample has shown the presence of EPO. Having tested positive on August 7, the Neri Sottoli rider was removed from the long list for the World Championships in Ponferrada and was provisionally suspended by the UCI and his team. However, the Italian requested his B sample to be tested but apparently the results didn't do him any favour. According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, the analyses of the laboratory in Cologne showed no surprises compared to the results of the test of the A sample."
Rabottini grew to fame when he won a stage and the mountains jersey in the 2012 Giro d'Italia. He was one of the leading members of the Neri Sottoli team but now faces a suspension. His positive doping test prompted the UCI to only give Neri Sottoli a pro continental license upon the condition that the team undergoes stringent controls by the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation and the UCI to verify the team’s implementation of its announced anti-doping measures.
