Alex Rasmussen will try to beat the Hour Record after Jens Voigt set a new standard in September. The Dane believes that it is possible to do even better.

On September 18, mot of the cycling world watched how Jens Voigt covered 51.1km during an hour of hard racing on the track in Grenchen. By doing that, he reinvigorated the legendary Hour Record that nobody had beaten since Ondrej Sosenka set the standrard in 2005.

Several international stars like Bradley Wiggins and Taylor Phinney have indicated that they will try to beat Voigt's record and now a Dane also shows his intentions. Former track world champion Alex Rasmussen will try to anticipate the stars and he believes in his chances due to his vast track experience.

"I think it is possible to beat Jens Voigt. What he did was really impressive but he is no born track rider and several riders will be able to beat him during the next few years. But I hope that I can do so well that people have to fight hard to beat it," he tells tv2.dk

To reach the target, Rasmussen will be supported by the Danish company Ceramic Speed. The idea is that the attempt will take place on the track in either Odense or Ballerup after the 2015 Tour of Denmark, TV2 Sporten reports. Recently, the Dane was taken off the Danish national track team and he will ride for the continental TREFOR-Blue Water in 2015.

"Now we will make an attempt with me because I have lots of time and motivation. I really like the idea. And I really believe that it is realistic to beat the record," Rasmussen says.

"I am no longer part of the national track team and I am looking for a new target. Jens Voigt has reinvigorated the record in a cool way and it has again gained a lot of prestige," Rasmussen tells DR Sporten. "If the conditions and the bike are right, it is realistic for me to beat the Hour Record."
