Adrien Petit got his Direct Energie career off to the best possible start as he took his first win on the third day in his new jersey. In the hilly finale of the third stage of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo, he made it into an 18-rider front group and managed to beat Benoit Jarrier (Fortuneo-Vital Concept) and Andrea Palini (Skydive Dubai) in the sprint. Palini defended his overall lead.
Adrien Petit knows Gabon well as he already won a stage in the 2013 edition when he beat Palini in Mitzic.
"I always kept a great memory and this win today gives me even more pleasure because it was in Gabon that I discovered the joys of victory for the first time as a professional," he said. "It was Yohann Gene who did the lead-out. I took his wheel and I opened the gas in the last moment. "
