The riders of CCC Sprandi Polkowice were among the most aggressive riders in the Italian one-day race GP Nobili Rubinetterie. They were present in every important move and in the end Grega Bole finished in the top 5.

CCC Sprandi Polkowice riders were very eager to get into the breakaway of the day early on. Bartłomiej Matysiak, Branislau Samoilau, Tomasz Kiendyś and Sylwester Szmyd were all among the attackers, but the pace in the bunch was not allowing anybody to create a bigger gap. 80km into the stage the peloton was still all together.

A 27-man group finally broke clear and Matysiak and Kiendys managed to be part of it. The biggest advantage that they established was 3 minutes. The peloton led by Movistar was chasing down the leaders and brought down the gap to only 1 minute with 60 km to go.

Soon most of the escapees got caught and only seven riders were left in front (Canola, Anacona, Meier, Kochekov, Vorganov, Pellizotti and Finetto).  Eventually they were also reeled in and the next move came from Davide Rebellin. He and Alejandro Valverde launched an attack. The Italian-Spanish duo gained 38 seconds over the reduced bunch but it was not enough to hold off the chasers.

“I had very good legs today and I decided to go away on the last climb with Valverde. If the hill was a little bit longer we could have built larger gap and gone all the way to finish, but unfortunately we were brought back to the field,” Rebellin explains to the CCC Sprandi Polkowice website.

With 7km to go the group was compact again and the sprinters were warming up their engines  for the final sprint. Grega Bole was the 5th fastest man in the end while Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek) took the win. He outsprinted Simone Ponzi (Southeast) and Marco Haller (Katusha). The best riders recorded a very high average speed – 46,8km/h (they covered 187km in 4 hours).

“My teammates were amazing today. They were not only attacking but also did a great job at protecting me when it counted and Maciej Paterski helped me position myself in the finale. In the sprint I took the right side of the road which was slightly more windy but I am satisfied with how I finished the race. I feel better and better every day. After Andalucía I had some break from racing, so I could concentrate on training. I was also sleeping at altitude. Now that work should pay off in the upcoming races,” Grega Bole said afterwards.
