For the fourth time in the team’s history, CCC Sprandi Polkowice will take part in the Tour of Turkey (April 26 – May 3, cat. 2.HC). Davide Rebellin will be the leader of the “orange squad”.
"Davide Rebellin has been showing good form from the beginning of the season and he is aiming for a podium spot in Turkey. He was very close from accomplishing that last year, when he finished 5th overall. With every year the race is getting harder and harder, with more climbing. That’s why the Italian will be surrounded by riders who feel comfortable in the mountains, like Stefan Schumacher, Adrian Honkisz, Łukasz Owsian and Jan Hirt," Piotr Wadecki, team DS, said.
The roster will be rounded out by Tomasz Kiendyś, Mateusz Taciak and Nikolay Mihaylov who are solid in the flat terrain.
Stages 3 and 6 will be crucial in terms of general classification. They both end with a long climb – to Elmali and Selcuk. They were both on last year’s route and in both cases Rebellin finished in the top 5 (in 5th and 3rd place). Also the penultimate stage to Izmir, with a cat. 1 climb located 28km from the finish, may cause some changes in the overall standings.
The sprinters will have their chances for stage victories as well. Some of the best sprint specialists in the world have announced their participation in the Turkish event – Mark Cavendish, Tom Boonen and Andre Greipel.
