Tre Valli Varesine will be a very important build-up race for the Italian monument Il Lombardia.
Davide Rebellin will be the leader of CCC. He knows Tre Valli Varesine like nobody else. He won there twice – in 1998 and 2011 and repeatedly finished in the top 10. In the last two editions he placed 4th and 5th. He showed good late-season form by winning Coppa Agostoni a few days ago.
Rebellin will be supported by seven other riders in orange – among them another Italian, Christian Delle Stelle, German Stefan Schumacher, Czech Jan Hirt and four Polish riders, who are strong uphill. Most of that team will be racing in Il Lombardia, held on October 4.
Tre Valli Varesine will be 198 kilometers long. The second part of the course will be held on a 12,8-kilometer circuit in Varese, with two hills. They are difficult enough to break the peloton apart. Although the final kilometer is flat, a small group is expected at the finish. A 2-kilometer climb leads to the “flamme rouge” and this is where the field is likely tp shatter.
