After returning to cycling this year following a two year ban for missing a test while riding for Androni-Giocattoli, Team IDEA 2010 ASD’s Francesco Reda looked back on form when he was second behind Nibali at the Italian road race. But now we know how this performance came about, after he was caught by an anti-doping control taken that day with EPO in his system.
According to a report from the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), Reda's first sample was tested in a laboratory in Rome and the analysis revealed the presence of NESP (Darbepoetina alfa), a form of EPO.
Should he be found guilty, he faces a lifetime suspension from the sport as this would be his second ban.
