Kiel Reijnen continued his excellent performance in the Tour of Utah when he sprinted to third in yesterday's stage. The American now has finished in the top 5 in 4 out of 5 stages.
Being a fast sprinter and a solid climber, Kiel Reijnen has all the characteristics to shine in the Tour of Utah. Yesterday he made use of those two skills to sprint to third in stage 5 of the race.
"We know that Kiel is one of the quickest sprinters here and we know that he can win, so we took responsibility of closing down the final break," sports director Mike Tamayo said. "With the fast run-in to the finish, the team did a great job keeping Kiel safe and putting him in position for the sprint."
Kiel Reijnen added, "The team was incredible for me today. The run-in was very narrow, making positioning at the front especially important. The guys got me there then took an amazing pull, like nothing I’ve ever seen before, bringing me into the final corner in a great position. We’ve had some really close ones this week, I gave it what I had and the guys gave it all they had. We missed the win, but I’m happy to deliver the podium for them."
This is Reijnen’s fourth top-ten finish out of five stages at the Tour of Utah, with two stages remaining in the race.
