The number of riders per team in grand tours and classics will be unchanged in 2017. According to Spanish newspaper AS , the teams can select as many riders for these races as in 2016.
Two weeks ago, ASO, RCS Sport and Flanders Classics made the announcement that the number of riders in grand tours would be reduced to 8 and that the teams could only select 7 for their other races. However, the plans were apparently no final decision was made during a meeting of the Professional Cycling Council in Mallorca last Tuesday.
The Pro Cycling Council decides the rules for road cycling and with no decision being made, the rules cannot be implemented for 2017. Apparently, the three big organziers have accepted to postpone the plans for a year.
