The Vuelta a Espana is again expected to visit the Valencia region and according to the daily Informacion, it will not be a mere procession. The paper reports that two summit finishes are planned in Cumbre del Sol and Xorret del Cati. 

Cumbre del Sol is a very hard finish with very steep gradients. It made its debut in 2015 when Ton Dumoulin beat Chris Froome with a late comeback. Xorret del Cati is a classic climb that has not been visited in recent years. It is still a very steep climb which ends with a short 1km descent to the finish. It was last used in a major bike race at this year’s Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana where Wout Poels won the queen stage there. In 2010, David Moncoutie won a Vuelta stage while Gustavo Cesar Veloso was the best one year earlier.

The Vuelta should stay four days in Valencia. According to Informacion, the sixth stage is expected to start from Segorbe, which will host the start of the queen stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana  too, and end in Xàbia. The seventh stage will take off from Ontinyet and end at Cumbre del Sol. The eighth stage will start from Dénia and have a finish in Xorret del Cati and finally the last stage will link Petrer and Caravaca in the Murcia region.

The full route will be presented on January 12 at the Madrid Congress Centre.
