The 26th podium placement for the Swiss IAM Cycling was won after a strong sprint by Vicente Reynes on the 4th stage of Vuelta a Burgos. He finished second right after the winner Lloyd Mondory of AG2R. On the final stage Dani Moreno took over the leader’s jersey.

“I’m very excited for this 2nd place. When I see where I have come from, I am very glad I kept going. I remember the pain I felt for more than two months. I was ready to hang up my bike and retire. So this podium place has come at a very good time and gives me a big morale boost before the Vuelta.” 

Vicente Reynes does not forget the hard times he has had this season due to the chronic prostatitis he suffered, but he expects this day to remain long in his good memory bank. Reynes also wanted to give a lot of credit to the work done by the team. 

“In the final, Jonathan Fumeaux and Johann Tschopp did all the heavy lifting. We weren’t missing much to get the big victory, but after all my troubles; this is nothing to sneeze at.”  

Marcello Albasini, directeur sportif for IAM Cycling, enjoyed today’s podium place which he knows was earned by the whole team. 

“We agreed to put a rider in the breakaway. And when I saw Fumeaux among the riders in a strong break, I thought perhaps that might go to the line. But it took Astana riding against us to pull them back. Then Aregger, Lang and Saramotins began to work to help bring Pelucchi into a good position in the pack for the sprint. But the last climb with pitches of 17% ruined the hopes of our sprinter. But not giving up, the squad pulled together to help Vincente, who came away with a magnificent 2nd place.”
