Richie Porte announced during this Tour de France that he will leave the Team Sky at the end of thi season in order to have the leadership as a three-week race team. The Australian rider has assisted Sky to three Tour wins : Bradley Wiggins in 2012 and Chris Froome in 2013 and 2015.
"I’ve had a great four years here, I’ve got some really good friends here, but I feel like it is time to move on, as sad as that is", he explained according to SBS. "We’re very close, we’ve been together for such a long time and it’s is an incredible feeling obviously."
Even if he cannot discuss about transfers until 1st August, some rumours announced that the Australian rider has been linked to BMC Racing Team for the next season. Asked about the possibility to ride again the two-time Tour de France winner, he responded with fun. "Obviously me going to OricaGreenEDGE next year, it’s going to be a bit strange lining up against each other but that’s just this sport."
