Following his decision not to wait for Alberto Contador after he cracked on stage five of the Tour, Roman Kreuziger has reportedly caused a rift with his captain.
Tinkoff have claimed the Czech champion and Contador have fought and made up, although Kreuziger stayed with the main group on day five whilst Contador conceded 33 seconds.
“The situation is cleared up,” Sports Director Sean Yates explained. “There was a miscommunication that was a bit of this and that. It’s been talked about and dealt with. I’m confident that that won’t happen again if the order is to wait.”
Contador said there was an order for Kreuziger to wait and he openly chose to disobey. Some are pointing to the fact that Tinkoff are folding at the end of the year and Contador is all but guaranteed a deal, whereas Kreuziger is not a dead cert to get a top deal so is showing his class.
"The team orders were clear, and his decision was something else,” Contador said of Kreuziger. “That’s the reality. The team tactics weren’t the problem, it was that Kreuziger acted on his own. We’ve talked about it, and we’ll turn the page on the misunderstanding. We’ll see how far we can get in this Tour.”
