Bjarne Riis hasn’t been involved in cycling for almost a year now, but his name refuses to go away. After rumours he would start his own team with Saxo Bank sponsorship morphed into re-buying his old team now called Team Tinkoff, it appears we will know soon what will happen with the Dane.
Saxo Bank CEO Lars Seier Christensen posted the following message on his Facebook on Wednesday: “OK. There seems to be interest in my and Bjarne Riis’s cooperation. Thank you for that! We are both looking forward to announcing our plans for the Riis * Seier project at a press conference the 25th of February, 12:30 at Hotel d’Angleterre. Thanks for the interest and the support. Kind regards, Bjarne Riis and Lars Seier Christensen.”
While that conference could discuss numerous things, it appears we will know in what way Riis will return to cycling. One thing that is for sure, is that Bjarne Riis is very likely to be back in cycling in 2017.
