Before the season Tinkoff-Saxo attended a training camp on the Canary Islands. The team got the chance to meet for the first time after Bjarne Riis sold his team to the controversial Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov.
In an interview with Tinkoff-Saxo former team owner and now general manager Bjarne Riis talks about how the training camp went. He says that it was nice for him to see the team as one unit.
”Being a good place like this is always nice. The weather is good and we can get some good kilometres into the legs of the riders.”
”I think a camp is always important because it is shaping up a lot of things, not just the condition before the season, but also the spirit and philosophy of the team and being together, being a team.”
The team leader of the season will be Spaniard Tour de France winner Alberto Contador and the teammates have said that he is ready to take the Tour title. Nicolas Roche said he never gave up last year.
"Alberto never gave up last year. Even when he knew Froome was stronger in the mountains, Alberto kept fighting all the way to the end. Every morning we talked about how we could attack the race."
