Bjarne Riis will have "exciting news for Danish cycling". The former team manager has announced a press conference in Copenhagen on Thursday. According to rumors, he will buy the Danish Continental cycling team Virtu Pro Velo Concept together with Lars Seier Christensen (co-owner of Saxo Bank).
Riis and Seier Christensen have started the Riis Seier Project . Since July they have been the main sponsor of Virtu Pro Velo Concept which was previously known as Team Trefor.
CyclingQuotes have learned that Seier Christensen and Riis will take over the team and so Riis will again be team owner.
This year Virtu Pro Velo Concept achieved success thanks to the performance of Mads Wurtz Schmidt. The 22-year-old former U23 world time trial champion won the the individual time trial at the Tour of Denmark. One month earlier he became Danish U23 champion in the road race and time trial. Next year he will make his professional debut at Katusha Alpecin.
This season Team Virtu Pro Velo Concept has Thomas Nybo Riis under contract. The 24-year-old rider is the son of Bjarne.
The team has not officially registered riders for 2017, but several Danish riders are already guaranteed a spot in the team.
