Tinkoff-Saxo went into stage 2 of the Tour of Britain with the goal of keeping Nicolas Roche safe. The Irishman finished in the peloton while his teammate Nikolay Trusov sprinted to 12th.
Tinkoff-Saxo’s Nikolay Trusov finished 12th in the bunch sprint on stage 2 of Tour of Britain, while the team had five out of six riders in the front group that due to high tempo and difficult terrain was down to 57 riders at the finish line. Sport director Lars Michaelsen said after the stage:
“The stage ended in a bunch sprint, where Trusov finished 12th. Going into the final kilometer, the peloton was stretched out and Trusov was positioned in the middle of the peloton. He fought his way up while the peloton went really fast but he didn’t have a good starting position”
With 9 kilometers to go, the peloton entered a small 3-kilometer climb, where Tinkoff-Saxo focused on keeping Nicolas Roche safe in the final.
“Nicolas had a protected role today. His terrain will come now with more altirude meters, where he can go for the GC. So we used Rasmus Guldhammer to bring back the breakaway, because this race will be decided by small time differences”, concluded Lars Michaelsen.
Stage 3 will be vital to any rider aiming for the general classification in Tour of Britain. The stage finishes of with a 4,5 kilometer climb with an average of 7,8 percent.
