Nicolas Roche will be part of Team Sky’s 2015 Grand Tour squad, where he is rumoured to ride two Grand Tours in 2015, like he did this year with Tinkoff-Saxo.
“All I can say now is that I’ll start with Ruta del Sol but after that the schedule isn’t 100 per cent finalised. Hopefully I can do the double with two Grand Tours in one season, like I did with the Giro d’Italia and Tour this year,” Roche told Cyclingnews.
Roche and Leopold Konig are two more potential leaders in three week races, who can ably act as Plan B if Chris Froome and Richie Porte, as both did in the Giro and Tour this year. But, withstanding incident, Roche says he will perform the same role that he performed at Tinkoff-Saxo and Alberto Contador this year in 2015.
“I feel like I can be a bit of a multi-tasker on the team and that’s a bit similar to the role I’ve had in the last couple of years. It means that I can take responsibility sometimes but that most of the time I can be in support for Chris Froome for most of the year,” he said.
Roche will get chances to lead the team himself, and he showed he was ready by winning his first ever stage race in 2014, the Route du Sud. He hopes his experience (he is now 30) can help himself capitalize on the chances he is given.
“It feels silly saying this because I’m not old but I’m now one of the most experienced riders on the team. It’s quite a young squad with guys between 25 and 30 and I’m on the last year of that so I bring that added experience.”
