He was by many experts mentioned as the hottest favourite to win todays mountain stage, but Rodriguez was not able to follow his team mate Daniel Moreno's attack in the final part of the climb. He though finished in the peleton together with the other favourites of the race.
“I saw Moreno attack but I couldn't follow him immediately – I was in a good shape, but the lack of racing conditioned my performance. Anyways I think it's normal after the rest period at the end of 'Tour de France'”, said Rodriguez.
Daniel Moreno took his chances in the finale and tried to go for the stage win, but even though he was capable of attacking he could, just as his team captain Rodriguez, also feel the lack of racing after the Tour de France.
“In the final part I was ahead so I tried to attack – I had good, but not great, feelings about my shape. The first days of a Grand Tour after a rest period are always like this though. It's a pity I couldn't win, but the second place is a good result”, said Moreno.
