Joaquim Rodriguez finished 7th place on top of the special category climb Alto Campoo, the mountaintop finish of stage 14 of the Vuelta a España. Katusha’s leader was second from the group of favorites, 6 seconds behind Nairo Quintana from Movistar, winning 1 second to Fabio Aru from Astana and 20 seconds to Tom Dumoulin from Giant-Alpecin.
"In the last part of the stage, where it was very steep, I felt better than I expected. That was good as four-five kilometres from the end I had a bad moment. I even thought I would lose a lot of time today. Astana was hammering constantly, doing the last climb at a high pace. When Aru attacked, I was afraid to pay my efforts in trying to follow him. That's, why I waited. It allowed me to recover a bit. That saved my day. In the end, I even did better than Aru. This Vuelta is not over. There are some stages that really suit me. On the other hand, I will lose time in the time trial. We will need to be attentive every day," said Joaquim Rodriguez.
Aru still holds the red jersey, Joaquim Rodriguez is second, +0.26, Dumoulin is 3rd, +0.49. Daniel Moreno is 8th, +2.13.
Tomorrow will be held another mountain stage: 175,8 km from Comillas to Alto de Sotres.
