In 2013 and 2014, Joaquim Rodriguez started his season in the Tour de San Luis. However, the Spaniard wants to focus on the Tour de France in 2015 and so he is likely to start his season a bit later.
After reports that Peter Sagan will skip the race, the Tour de San Luis may lose another main rider, Joaquim Rodriguez. Ciclismo Internacional reports that the Spaniard will start his season later.
"Purito will start a little later because his calendar will focus on the Tour de France," a source close to the Spanish climber told Ciclismo Internacional. Hence, he will miss the Argentine race which he was extended to attend in August when the courses for the grand tours were still not known. At that time, race organizer Giovanni Lombardi hinted that both Rodriguez and Daniel Moreno had both planned to start but his plans have now been changed. Now it seems that the Katusha rider will skip the race which he did in 2013 and 2014.
The course for the Tour de France has very little time trialling and this is the main incentive for Rodriguez who still has to survive the pave. Nonetheless, he is definitely one of the main riders that is mostly favoured by the course.
Vincenzo Nibali's participation is still uncertain and Peter Sagan is also reported to skip the race. On the other hand, Ciclismo Internacional reports that both Mark Cavendish and Michal Kwiatkowski are in advanced negotiations with the organizers of the Tour de San Luis that will take place from January 19 to 25.
