Jürgen Roelandts is another leader of Lotto-Soudal for the Ronde. He went along with co-leader Benoot for a course recon ahead of tomorrow’s race.
"It was good to once again be a young guy on the road. Then you pull once on the slopes and so it was a good day for me," said Roelandts.
"It made the training a bit heavier, but that may be. I have to make the bridge on Sunday to the front and then you still need a tough workout. It was also a test for my back and that was probably already better than Friday and Sunday.”
In 2013, Roelandts was already third on the Ronde podium. Is that another possibility?
"Normally, Tiesj and I are both in the final and then a lot can happen. But the same legs can get second or third as well as twelfth. It will take a matter of the right decisions."
Roelandts intends to anticipate the bigger names on Sunday. "When Sagan and Cancellara go, they are hard to follow. Especially Cancellara on the Oude Kwaremont. When that happens, only a few will be able to follow. So you have already gone before. In this condition top five is certainly possible.”
