After yesterdays success of the Belgian Jerome Baugnies at the second stage of La Tropicale Amissa Bongo, Roy Jans made it double for the Wanty-Groupe Gobert team today, as he has won the third stage of the event held in Western Africa.
The first truly mountainous stage of the race led the peloton from Ndjole to Lambarene, covering a total distance of 133 kilometers. The winner of today’s stage, Belgian Jans Roy oversprinted at the finish line his team-mate Baugnies, Egoitz Garcia of Cofidis and last year’s overall classification winner Yohann Genne of Europcar, who recorded a rather anonymous performance so far in the running edition.
The race was animated today by a well-cooperating breakaway consisting of three riders: Jim Songezo (MTN Qhubeka), Kindishi Debesay (Eritrea) and Jean Bosco Nsengiyumva (Rwanda), but the peloton never let the leading group gain a satisfying advantage.
There were no changes in the overall classification, as the race leader Luis Leon Sanchez kept everything under control up to the finish line, with the support of his team-mates from Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team.
