FDJ rider Jeremy Roy has announced his race schedule for the first part of the 2015 season on his website. Three years after his last appearance, he will start his season at the Tour Down Under.
After two years with starts in Etoile de Besseges where he finished 4th and 6th in 2013 and 2014 respectively, Jeremy Roy says that he wants to "change the routine." Afterwards, he will take a short break to recover from the trip to Australia.
Roy will make his European debut at the Ruta del Sol which takes place from February 19 to 23. Although the time trial may be a bit too short to his lining, he is happy to get the chance to experience the race for the first time. "The FDJ team will explore the Ruta del Sol which replaces the Volta ao Agarve. That also has something to do with the likely disappearance of the Tour Mediteraneen. We will both be at the Tour of Oman and the Ruta del Sol. Initially, I was very happy to do this race because there was a time trial but when the course was unveiled, it had disappeared. It is a small disappointment to learn this but we'll do without it." In fact, Roy seems to be unaware that the race actually includes a short time trial on the opening day.
After the Spanish race, he will do Tirreno-Adriatico for the first time. The main goal is to support Thibaut Pinot before he heads to the new Classica Corsa and the Critérium International. "La Classica Corsica is a new one-day race. The course is pretty amazing, with a big climb after forty kilometres, but the final hundred kilometres are flat. There may be echelons, much like in the first stage of the 2013 Tour de France," he writes on his website.
From April 7 to 12, he will be at the start of the Tour of the Basque Country for the third consecutive time, always with the objective of helping Thibaut Pinot. Then the first part of the season will end with the Tour de Romandie from April 29 to May 4. To find time to do training in the mountains, Roy prefers to race a bit less in the beginning of the season to avoid a decline in form as he had in the 2014 season.
