Miguel Angel Rubiano has been selected as a key member of the Colombian team for the Worlds. He will fine-tune his preparation when he leads the Colombia team in the Trittico Lombardo race series.
With two weeks to the Road World Championships road race in Ponferrada (Spain), Team Colombia’s Miguel Angel Rubiano and Carlos Julian Quintero continue their build-up for the event they are taking part in for Colombia for the fifth and first time respectively.
The Trittico Lombardo (September 16-17-18), moved from its original fixture in August, becomes now a key test for the Escarabajos:Coppa Bernocchi, Coppa Agostoni and Tre Valli Varesine are among the oldest races in the Italian calendar, with prestigious winners lists every athlete would love to be part of.
Rubiano and Quintero will be at the start of all the three races: they will be joined at Coppa Bernocchi (September 16th) by Juan Esteban Arango, Robinson Chalapud, Edward Diaz, Fabio Duarte, Rodolfo Torres and Juan Pablo Valencia. The same line-up will tackle Coppa Agostoni (September 17th) and Tre Valli Varesine (September 18th), with the sole exception of Jarlinson Pantano replacing Arango.
The Colombian National Champion has enjoyed some good performances in the past at the Trittico – 4th place in 2010 Coppa Agostoni, followed in 2011 by an eight place in the same race and a ninth place at Tre Valli Varesine:
"Coppa Bernocchi changed routes this year, and it should be more selective while Agostoni and Tre Valli are traditionally more demanding," Rubiano explained. "I feel good, so I expect to be able to compete with the strongest and start a good final month of the year.
“I rested for a few days after the Vuelta a Colombia, but found a good pedal stroke right away when I restarted training, and I have completely recovered from the jet lag after travelling back to Europe: I want to be at the top for the World Championships, and the Trittico will provide a good opportunity for a fine tuning."
