Nicola Ruffoni went close to the podium in the sprint in Stage of the Tour of Denmark 4, divided in a road race this morning and an individual time trial in the evening.
After 116,5km with an uphill finish in the city of Frederiksvaerk, Ruffoni claimed 5th place not far behind winner Matti Breschel (Tinkoff – Saxo) who repeated the victory from yesterday. Enrico Battaglin also took part in the final sprint, crossing the line in 11th position.
”With only 116.5km the stage was really fast from the start," sports director Mirko Rossato said. "We set the pace in front of the peloton because we believed in our sprinters. In fact Ruffoni was strong enough to take 5th, a really good result. Behind Battaglin finished just outside the top-10. Two placings which give us morale for the time trial and the final stage tomorrow."
