The Russian Federation has confirmed the selection for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Ilnur Zakarin, Sergei Chernetskiy and Pavel Kochetkov will represent the country in the road race.
With a hilly road race circuit, Zakarin will be the leader. This year, he won the La Madone d'Utelle stage in Paris-Nice and finished first on the stage to Morgins in the Tour de Romandie (he was relegated to second place for irregular sprinting). At the Giro d'Italia, he crashed hard on a fast part of a descent during the last week of competition.
Last week, Kochetkov won the Russian road race title. Chernetskiy was the best at the time trial championships.
