Today Cannondale Pro Cycling came agonizingly close to taking their first win in the 100th Tour de France. In the second stage Peter Sagan placed second behind Bakelants (RadioShack-Leopard), the last rider of the small group who attacked at 5km to go to ward off the sprint.
"The finale was good to attack and our goal was to leave no room for breakaways" explained Sagan. "My teammates did their best to manage the situation but we paid for the efforts made on the climbs to outdistance the sprinters. I also considered attacking but everyone is looking at me and it's hard. My feelings are good, but I wasn't at the top due to yesterday's crash."
With the points taken at the finish (25) and the ones at the intermediate sprint (10) Sagan moved in second position in the green jersey classification with 43 point, 4 less than the leader Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano).
Good news for the Cannondale team came from Ted King who was able to finish the stay in spite of the strong contusion sustained on his left shoulder suffered yesterday.
