Cannondale has announced the roster for the Tour de France and will go into the race with the clear aim of winning the green jersey for a third consecutive time with Peter Sagan. The Slovakian will be supported by Elia Viviani who will play an unusual role of lead-out man in his first ever Tour.
Cannondale Pro Cycling's final roster for the 101st edition of the Tour de France is ready to be released. The Green Machine will line-up nine riders for the Grande Boucle which kicks off July 5thand finishes on July 27th. The team will seek to repeat another strong performance after a strong 2013 Tour.
All eyes will be on Peter Sagan, team captain and Slovakian champion. Cannondale Pro Cycling will put its trust in Sagan and the team riders will support him as he chases his third consecutive Green Jersey and searches for stage wins.
During the Tour de France, Peter Sagan will be led by team directors Stefano Zanatta, Mario Scirea and Gilles Pauchard. Sagan will have a solid and reliable team around him. Maciej Bodnar of Poland, Slovenian Kristijan Koren, American Ted King, Italian Fabio Sabatini and Jean-Marc Marino of France will form the group of long distance riders in charge of setting the pace and supporting Sagan during the flat stages. Italians Marco Marcato and Alessandro De Marchi, two of Cannondale Pro Cycling's most skilled and complete riders, will play important roles during the mixed stage. Sagan's lead-out man during the bunch arrivals will be none other than the Green Machine's fastest sprinter, Elia Viviani.
"Every July, the cycling world turns its attention to the Tour de France as one of the most important races of the year," said Bob Burbank, Cannondale Global General Manager. "We approach this race as an opportunity to let our team show it's strength and all the excitement it brings to cycling.
"Last year, the guys showcased incredible teamwork at every stage, especially during the stage 7 win with the amazing Montpellier 100k lead out. This Cannondale team has an infectious personality bringing flair back to the peloton and this year will be no exception. Peter and his mates go for an unprecedented third green jersey aboard the best bikes in the world including the SuperSix EVO and Slice RS."
