"Since the first stage, every day I'm among the main contenders and now I wear the green jersey with a good advantage. This is a positive aspect, but I want something more," Sagan says

Peter Sagan has a commanding lead in the points competition after having finished in the top 5 in all stages so far. However, the Slovakian is starting to get frustrated after he again narrowly missed out on a stage victory in today's seventh stage.

When the photo finish had shown that Matteo Trentin had won today's stage seven of the Tour de France, Peter Sagan was furious. All day his teammates had worked hard to control the race but again the Slovakian had narrowly been denied a victory.

Sagan has been extremely consistent as he has finished in the top 5 in all 7 stages so far and it seems that he only needs to finish the race to win the green jersey for the third year in a row. The elusive stage victory, however, is still missing and after the stage, he only gave the official interview as points leader and refused to speak to any other media.

"When I win, people complain that I win easily and now people think it's strange that I don't win, but the reality is that it's not easy to win," he said. "I thank my team-mates for the huge work they've done by pulling all day.

"I've had to try and attack in the last climb but I looked back and I saw the group coming across. I've tried my best at the end. I was close to winning but I didn't win. I've never thought I was the winner. I knew it was tight so I was waiting for the result.

"I'm still up there. This is another good day for the green jersey but something extra is missing and that's a stage win. However, there's still a long way away in the Tour de France and my day will come. At least I hope so.

"Since the first stage, every day I'm among the main contenders and now I wear the green jersey with a good advantage. This is a positive aspect, but I want something more. I know there will be other chances before Paris and I think that my day will arrive."
