From Paris to London: Peter Sagan is ready to return to race after successfully achieving his goal of winning the green jersey at the Tour de France.
On Sunday the Cannondale rider takes to the start in the Prudential Ride London Classic. Besides Sagan, Cannondale will also count on Damiano Caruso, Tiziano Dall'Antonia, Lucas Haedo, Paolo Longo Borghini and Fabio Sabatini.
For the Slovak champion Sagan, the race in London will be useful to break the ice after the post-Tour rest and to begin the last part of the season.
"The Grande Boucle was really hard and stressful" said Sagan "and I needed a period of rest. This is the reason why I didn't race any criteriums. My only thought was to recover. I can't expect to be immediately competitive on Sunday as my legs will have a hard time after two weeks without races. Anyway, the London Classic will be a useful test, as well as a very nice race. I'll see km after km how I'll feel: I'm not forced to win but to do my best.”
After London Sagan will fly to the USA where, from August 19 to 25, he will race in Colorado the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. In September he will move to Canada for the Tour of Alberta (3 to 8) while on the 13th and on the 15th he will be at the start of the UCI World Tour races in Quebéc and Montréal.
"I like this race schedule and I think it's suited for me. It's the best way to face all the events in good condition. After these, there's the World Championship in Florence, but it's far away and too early to think about,” Sagan added.
