Like most other teams, Cannondale will have several riders in action in this week's national championships road races. The team will line up a very big team at the Italian championhips but their best winner candidate is Peter Sagan who is in search of a fourth consecutive Slovakian title.
Twenty-two riders in eight countries - that's how many members of Cannondale Pro Cycling will compete in National Championships this weekend. The Green Machine will attend races in Italy, Slovakia, France, Slovenia, Germany, Poland, Austria and Canada. That does not include road race and time trial Championships already decided in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Poland, and Slovenia.
Tomorrow, June 28, the Italian riders, the team's largest group, will take part in the road race. The selection includes Ivan Basso, Alberto Bettiol, Damiano Caruso, Alessandro De Marchi, Davide Formolo, Oscar Gatto, Alan Marangoni, Marco Marcato, Moreno Moser, Fabio Sabatini, Cristiano Salerno, Davide Villella and Elia Viviani. These riders will be led by team directors Alberto Volpi and Biagio Conte. Following the road race, Marangoni will also compete in the time trial championship on June 29.
For the other nine riders, the road race championship on June 29 will be the main event. Peter Sagan will chase his fourth consecutive national title alongside his brother Juraj. In Slovenia, Cannondale Pro Cycling will be represented by Kristijan Koren and Matej Mohoric, while Maciej Bodnar will race in Poland, Matthias Krizek will compete at the Austrian Championships, Jean-Marc Marino in France, Guillaume Boivin will face competition in Canada. And Michel Koch will take on the German road race course.
