Canadian National champion Guillaume Boivin is joining Cycling Academy Team on a 2-year contract.

The 26-year-old Montreal native, who started his sport career as an ice hockey player, has a solid palmares: In 2010, he was 3rd in 2010 at the under 23 Road World championships in a close sprint with Michael Matthews, John Degenkolb and Taylor Phinney. 
 

Among his main achievements are a 2nd place at the Ronde van Drenthe, 3rd at the Tro-Bro Léon and multiple stage victories at the Tour de Beauce.

He began his career at SpiderTech-C10 (Canada's first pro cycling team) and has since raced at the WorldTour level with the Italian Cannondale Pro Cycling Team and most recently with the American Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies Continental team.

"Guillaume brings a degree of talent and a proven ability to perform at the highest levels," explains Cycling Academy Team manager Ran Margaliot. "Signing him is an important step forward in our journey towards the world's highest levels.”

"The experience of riding some of the great classics and grand tours is hard to quantify but is very valuable,” he says.

After some bad luck with folding teams, he found himself riding mainly in America and is delighted to get an offer from Academy to be the leading sprinter.

"I am really proud and honoured to take part in this great project," he said and expressed his desire to get back to racing in Europe and work with the new head sports director Nicki Sorensen.

"He is a fast and a successful sprinter with already a wide experience despite his young age," says the Academy's Head Sports Director Sorensen, "He will play an important role in boosting our team performance.”

Cycling Academy had recently announced its intention to become Israel's first ever team to compete in a Gran-Tour by 2018. The team is expected to make more signing announcements in the upcoming days.
