There was no surprise in the Slovakian road race championships where Peter Sagan earned himself a fourth consecutive title. The win was important for his confidence as he goes into the most important race of the year, the Tour de France.

Peter Sagan did it again – for the fourth consecutive year he wins the Slovakian road race championship. Yesterday, on the 192 km of the race in Slavkov u Brna, Sagan took a solo victory, thanks to the great work of his brother Juraj, leaving behind Peter Velits at 51 seconds and Martin Mahdar at 2:46.

“This is the best way to approach the Tour de France,” said Peter Sagan. “I’m really proud to have the Slovakian flag on my jersey for one year more. I feel the support and the warmth of the Slovakian people in every race and the National Championship is the only chance I have to race in my country – this win is for them."

The Slovakian title is the seventh success for Sagan in 2014. On Wednesday he will fly to Leeds with teammates and staff of Cannondale Pro Cycling to race, from Saturday, the Grande Boucle.

In the other countries, Cannondale Pro Cycling collected another podium thanks to Italian Alan Marangoni. After the great performance of Saturday from Davide Formolo, who placed second in the road race, Marangoni took third place in the individual time trial championship behind Adriano Malori and Dario Cataldo.

Top ten result in road races championship also for Guillaume Boivin in Canada, who finished 5th, and Matthias Krizek in Austria, 8th at the finish.
