We have informed yesterday, following the report published in the Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, that Peter Sagan reached an agreement with Tinkoff-Saxo to ride in the outfit of the Danish World Tour team when his current contract with Cannondale expires with the end of 2014 year. However, the information was quickly denied by his agent, Giovanni Lombardi, in the official statement published yesterday’s afternoon.
In the statement published yesterday’s afternoon Lombardi didn’t deny he was in contact with Tinkoff-Saxo and several other teams interested in acquiring Sagan for 2015, but strongly insisted that he has frozen all the negotiations until after the Paris-Roubaix as the Slovakian talent has to fully concentrate on his big spring objectives.
"Regarding the news that appeared on some organs of the press recently involving my client Peter Sagan, I find it necessary to point out that no agreement has been reached," Lombardi said in the statement, which was published on TuttoBici.
"I have frozen all negotiations until after the Classics so that Peter can remain concentrated on his very important objectives in these races. Though understanding of the great media attention that this subject arouses, I am certain that journalists will understand my position."
What’s more, in the same report published in Gazzetta dello Sport it was suggested that the title sponsor of the Italian squad, Cannondale Bicycles, is strongly encouraged to follow the move of Slovakian rider as the current owner of the Danish World Tour outfit, Oleg Tinkov, was initially interested in acquiring the Italian team. If the deal came into fruition, the bike factory would not only replace Specialized as the technical supplier in Tinkoff-Saxo, but very likely also as a second sponsor adding 6.5 million euro to their budget. This information, however, wasn’t commented by any of the parties yet.
