Samuel Sanchez is on the start list for the Spanish cyclo-cross championships that will be held this weekend in Gjon. The former BMC rider is expected to announce more about his future in the near future.
In December, Sanchez did three cyclo-cross races and even won the final one on December 28, his last day in BMC colouts. In the elite championships on Sunday, he will be riding for the MMR Bikes team
Sánchez is very excited, he told the website of the Spanish Federation. "I have loved cyclocross since I was a child, but my dedication to the road has imposed certain limits. But now, under these circumstances, there was a Spanish championship twenty minutes from my home which was a strong temptation. "
The Spaniard is eager after his victory in the regional championship. "Candida was a beautiful circuit, it had everything and I thoroughly enjoyed it. And that's what I hope to do on Sunday. I have no goal other than to avoid crashes," he said. "It is a circuit for real specialists, with step, very hilly and it even seems that it will be raining."
Sanchez underlines that he wants to "give back something to cycling, it will not be s question of asking for more. If my presence can contribute to create some attention, it is good."
The 36-year-old is still without a team and in the coming days, he will officially announce more about his future. In 2014, the Olympic champion from Beijing raced at BMC (taking 6th in the Vuelta and 5th in Il Lombardia) and was at Euskaltel during the previous 13 seasons during which time he finished on the podium in both the Tour and the Vuelta.
Sunday's race will be held in Park Pericones in Gijon.
