"The truth is I was hoping to go to the Giro and I think all Colombians had hoped, but it was not possible. If called for the Vuelta, I hope to be very combative and reach a very good level in the mountains."

After second place overall at the Tour de San Luis, the newest Colombian climber on the block is Rodolfo Torres.

Torres was part of the Colombian army that swept the ninth Tour and one of the greatest entertainers of the race, but also, for many, a revelation. However, he denies that to ciclismointernacional.com: "It was not a surprise to me, climbing is my main quality. Perhaps in 2014, I did not stand out much because it was a year of adaptation at Team Colombia, but I knew my condition and besides, I'm in the best shape of my life," he says.

Owner of the same genetic as many of his countrymen, the question now turns to know if we will see the Boyacense in major European summits, something that our guest expects deal smoothly. "I hope to continue at a good level and feature in the mountain passes this season," he said with his usual calm, to quickly expand on the reasons for their progress: "The season in Europe and participate in a three-week race makes you grow."

28 years old and with a full season behind him, Torres feels ready to lead the squad if necessary. "There is pressure, we are prepared for outstanding results, that's what I'm doing and our team has always been this way, a fighter," he says. "I will lead the team in another race, can in Catalonia or any other that suits my characteristics," he continues.

But not only on the peaks showed his race. Torres cemented his podium uphill but defended in the time trial with an outstanding 14th place to Malori. "In the time trial I've always had confidence, but to be closer, only specialists have to prepare well for this purpose,” he says, revealing that did not work on the specialty.

"I went very fast this week, I did everything I could to win and failed because there was someone better, but I'm quiet and this gives me confidence for the rest of the season," ponders its way through San Luis. "I was surprised by the level of the riders and very good organization, both in logistics and stages.”

But amid much joy there was bad news, since the Giro d'Italia didn’t invite Team Colombia. "The truth is I was hoping to go to the Giro and I think all Colombians had hoped, but it was not possible," he says. However, the Tour of Spain seems to open the door and Torres dreams. "If called for the Vuelta, I hope to be very combative and reach a very good level in the mountains" he says.

"I trained thoroughly these months and clench even more now that we're not going to do the Giro, but for the national championships and Tirreno-Adriatico" he says, though clearly his love of Corsa Rosa hurts him. "The race that I've always dreamed was the Giro, I've always followed and I like its parcours.”

"This year I hope we are invited to the Vuelta, and I can really impress," concludes one of the revelations of January.
