Having had a slow start to the race, Luis Leon Sanchez finally showed himself in the Vuelta a Espana when he made it into the break in the tough stage 13. Despite coming away empty-handed the Spaniard is pleased to have regained good seonsations and vows to try again later in the race.
Caja Rural went into the Vuelta a Espana with the goal of winning a stage and their best card was always set to be Luis Leon Sanchez. However, the Spaniard has got his race off to a bad start as he fell ill during the Volta a Portugal.
Now he is feeling better and today he finally showed himself at the pointy end of the race when he earned the most aggressive rider award after having been part of the early break.
“My goal was to make the break today," he said. "I was lucky to be in but I couldn’t finish the job. Our advantage dropped down quickly from two minutes to half a minute. The headwind made it difficult for us at the front.
"After the first week where I was suffering from a cold that I caught in the Volta a Portugal, the feeling was good. I am eager and I have more than a week to look for another opportunity to join the right break.
"The team is doing well. We are always trying and we have to play the lottery each day. But we know that it is the Vuelta, one of the most important races in which everybody wants to win. That makes it difficult but we hope to be lucky. We will definitely try."
