An adverse analytical finding for testosterone has been recorded in Mauro Santambrogio's drug test taken on October 22. The Italian now features on the UCI list of provisionally suspended riders.

Mauro Santambrogio was banned for two years after the tested positive for EPO after the first stage of the 2013 Giro d'Italia. He cooperated with the authorities and so his suspension was reduced to 18 months and ended on November 2. He signed a contract with the Amore & Vita continental team and made it clear that he wanted to prove that he could also win clean.

"I was wrong, I suffered a lot, I struggled to find a way, but I finally found the courage to redeem myself. Now a new life begins for me. I start from scratch and want to show that I can win clean," he said then.

After three years at BMC, Santambrogio signed for Vini Fantini in 2013 and capped an excellent first half of the year with a stage win on the Jafferau climb on stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia where he beat Vincenzo Nibali. He finished 9th overall but shortly after the race, the UCI announced that he had tested positive for EPO after the first stage.

In his career, he has been riding for LPR (2004-2005), Lampre (2006), Tenax (2007), Lampre (2007-2009), BMC Racing Team (2010-2012) and Vini Fantini-Selle Italia (2013).
