While the former teammates are preparing for 2017, Fränk Schleck has a very different winter. However, the Luxembourger will remain connected to cycling as he revealed in an interview with radsport-news.com
Schleck announced the end of his career during the summer and has his last race at Il Lombardia in the beginning of October.
”Everything is still very new,” he told the German website. “Of course, I still train like a pro to some extent. I have perhaps not realized in completely. But that will come, at the latest when the training camps of the teams and finally the races are going on.
”I have the feeling to have postponed everything in the last 16 years. So there is a lot of catching up for me in the next months.”
Schleck has now turned his attention to the future.
“I still need to sort certain things out,” he said. “I want to give my passion for cycling and my experience back to others. Not necessarily directly as a sporting leader. Rather, I would like to help as many people as possible. For health and environmental reasons, everyone should love cycling more.
“On May 20, I'll organize a UCI World Series Gran Fondo in Luxembourg. I am looking forward to that. The race is part of a series of 19 competitions series with the world championships in the end. This is a big thing.
Schleck got his last win at the 2015 Vuelta. His final season was less spectacular.
“It was a tough season with lots of ups and downs. The crash at Flèche Wallonne and the broken collarbone made it a difficult season. I am quite satisfied with Tour de France. Of course, I had hoped for something more at the Ardennes classics but that was not possible due to the crash. Ultimately, I must be satisfied.”
