Etixx - Quick-Step rider Michal Golas was the top finisher for the team in a nervous, chaotic race decided by a breakaway group in the final kilometers on Wednesday.
Golas placed 18th in 198.2km Grand Prix de Wallonie, which was won by Jens Debusschere (Lotto Soudal) solo. The Belgian rider attacked a lead group, which was nine riders strong with a significant gap, with 1.1km to go. Jan Bakelants (AG2R - La Mondiale) was 2nd, and Christophe Laporte (Cofidis, Solutions Crédits) finished 3rd.
Only 100 riders finished the race. Pieter Serry was involved in a crash, and not long after his fall, there was a crash involving many riders of the peloton.
Serry, who crashed with about 50km remaining, withdrew from the race and was transported to the hospital of Cliniques Universitaires UCL Mont-Godinne. Serry was then diagnosed with a luxation of the left elbow. He will be operated on immediately in the same hospital. More information will be released in the next days.
