Katusha booked a win in the last stage of “Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda”, 159 km from Gorle to Bergamo, as Alexey Tsatevich was able to win the sprint of a select group consisting of around 20 riders.
The Russian took the victory in a slightly uphill finish, defeating Mauro Finetto (Vini Fantini – Selle Italia) and Franco Pellizotti (Androni-Venezuela). The winner of the first two stages, Patrik Sinkewitz (Meridiana-Kamen) was able to finish in the first group today, so he took the overall victory of “Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda”: Radoslav Rogina (Adria Mobil) finished as runner-up, while Manuel Francesco Bongiorno (Bardiani-CSF) took the last place of the podium in general classification.
“First of all I'd like to thank all my teammates,” said Tsatevich. “They did an incredible work today; all the team was absolutely great. I felt in a good shape yesterday, so I wanted to try and talked to my teammates about it. They supported me during the whole stage, especially in the hardest part of it, the last two climbs: on the first one Trofimov and Chernetckii did a great work and supported me; while Vorganov and Kolobnev were perfect on the last one, especially Alexander who launched my sprint until 300 meters to go. I'm very happy with this victory, but even more with my teammates’ work. I dedicate this win to the whole Katusha Team. I wasn't one of the favourites, because it was an uphill rush for powerful sprinters, but I managed to be first anyways.”
