Having gone into the race with GC ambitions, Romain Sicard again lost time in today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana. The Frenchman will now change his focus and target stage wins in the final two weeks of the race.
Romain Sicard got a unique chance to lead Europcar in a grand tour when he was selected as team leader for the Vuelta a Espana. However, the Frenchman has continually lost time in the first part of the race.
Today he again lost ground to his GC rivals and the Frenchman has now decided to change his focus.
“I’ve recovered from my crash," he said. "It’s something new to me to lead a team in a Grand Tour. Europcar gives me this opportunity. But now I’m too far down on GC so I target a stage win.
"Today we had three riders in the front group with Jérôme Cousin, Yannick Martinez and Natnael Berhane. It hasn’t worked out but we’ll try again. I’m looking forward to the stages that suit me.”
